Tips to Extend Battery Life in your Handheld Devices

Let's face it, we rely on our handhelds everyday but sometimes forget that batteries die at the worst time and can cause real problems.

Most Lithium ion batteries in a scanner have an average life of 12 months before losing significant capacity, but by following the tips below you can be sure to get the most from them.





1. Contrary to popular belief, Lithium Ion batteries do not have a "memory" and should not be allowed to completely discharge to zero.  Partial discharge to 20-25% of capacity before charging is ideal.
2. Set the low battery alarm in the power preferences on your device to alert you at 25% battery life remaining to avoid "deep cycling".
3. Batteries will lose approximately 5% of their capacity per month when not in use.  Using them and rotate through your spares, don't allow them to sit unused on a shelf.
4. High temperatures decrease the life of your batteries, store them in a cool dry location.
5. Cheap batteries can be expensive.  Battery life, discharge rates and even safety features can be significantly lower on some, "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is" (OK so that's not really a tip but it's good to remember)

2. You can search by model name and the word "battery" or "batteries" - for example, searching for "mc9090 batteries" will display a list of batteries that are compatable with Motorola's MC9090-G, MC909x-K, and MC909x-S models of mobile computers.
3. If you get too many results, you can click the "narrow your search" button on the left side-bar to try to narrow down your choices.
